Welcome

Welcome to the Maria Riesch website!

Meet Maria, the fresh Olympic GOLD medal winner in Super combined and Slalom and get to know more about the person "Maria" behind the scenes.

Dear fans,

thank you very much for all your good wishes and support for the upcoming season. I very much appreciate it!
Unfortunately I am not able to answer all of your e-mails or questions which you can always send to me under "Mail Maria". As I am concentrating fully on my sport career, I have only very little time left outside of my training sessions and the heavy traveling during the winter season. I am looking forward to all your mails.

Yours Sincerely,
Maria

Below you can find a few mails and questions which I received from you.

    • Dear Maria, Greetings from the USA. Congratulations on your success at the Vancouver Olympics. You have a lot of new fans in America both for your accomplishments and the way you conduct yourself. I know you wear tiger stripes when you race so please don't take this the wrong way, but you remind me of a jaguar, the cat indigenous to Central and South America, with its strength and incredible speed, combined with agility and grace. Hopefully, both - you and your sister - will be on the medal stands at Sochi in four years. Warmest regards, Bill

    • Hello :-) All the best for the Olympics! One question though: If Lindsey changes to men's skis why don't you do too? Her success shows and proves that she is doing the right thing. LoL Federico

      Hello Federico!

Thank you for your mail. Changig skis is not as easy as it might seem. Men's skis are longer and much stiffer which means that they are harder to control. Lindsey is racing with them since the past summer training so she had the chanceto get used to them step by step. I did not have the time and possibility as the racing season is in its full speed. Another fact is that I do pretty fine with my own material so it might be a little dangerous to change my skis so shortly before the Olympic Games.

      All the best,

      Maria
    • Hello Maria! Should it be a must, accoriding to your opinion, for hobby skiers to wear back protectors? Which ones are you using? All the best for Olympia, Udo

      Hi Udo!

I think that back protectors don't have to be worn by hobby skiers.
Nevertheless it always is recommendable to wear one for protection as it may save you before heavy injuries of your spine. In extrem cases it may avoid paraphlegia. In my opinion the ski helmet should be obligatory to wear at any time. Personally I use a back protector as well as a helmet by Dainese.

      Cheers,

      Maria
    • Hi Maria, what means speed to you? All the best, Annette

      Hello Annette,
speed plays an essential role in my life - be it on private or on business grounds. When I am on my skis, it can't be fast enough but also driving a car needs to be fast. I even enjoxy fast food now and then. No speed, no fun!

      Cheers,
      Maria
