A new chance to win GOLD
Tonight as of 18.30h Maria has a new chance to win an Olympic medal.
Maria managed the first race yesterday, under the given circumstances, in a very sporty manner and reached a very good eighth position
The numerous drop outs and crashes as well as Maria's late starting number had a strong and negative influence on her concentration.
For tonight, we keep our fingers crossed again and wish lots of luck and success!

Waiting for the races to start
Finally we made it - tonight as of 20.00 CET we can watch the first female alpine downhill race. Maria was able to train a bit yesterday but the bad weather conditions let the slope continue to be in a rather dissatisfying shape. We hope that there has been enough snow fall over night so that the preparation of the race slope will hopefully be much better.
To bridge this very nerve wracking time, Maria got together with Franziska van Almsick (former swimmer who won several medals at Olympic Games) and her manager Marcus Hoefl. Togehter they visited the town of Whistler.
Tonight is the "Maria night"! So please, cross your fingers!

The spring-like temperatures create chaos for the alpine agenda. Maria's first race in Super combined, where she could have won her first Olympic Gold, unfortuantely did not take place due to rain. This on the other hand meant that Maria was able to join the Opening Ceremony where she walked in the first row into the BC Place Stadium.
The duel between Maria and Lindsey now is planned for Thursday. For Lindsey the postponement means that she can recover from her injury and we can all look forward to a fair race between the two ladies. Let's hope that it will snow until then.

Only one more day until the beginning of the Olympic Games in Canadian Vancouver. This morning Maria spoke with Bayern3 Radio about her last day of training and what is on her agenda before it gets really serious.
Unfortunately, Maria will not be able to attend the opening ceremony tomorrow as it takes place exactly during two test-runns. Maria is moving closer to reaching her dream of winning a medal however. Her best friend Lindsey, who at the same time is her biggest competitor on skis, is having trouble with an injury. But as Maria says - in order to win a medal it needs also a little portion of luck and a well balanced situation.
