Maria Riesch achieved a historic momentum at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The 25 year old managed to be the first female skier to race in the top 10 in all five Olympic disciplines. Maria won a Double GOLD in Super combined as well as Slalom next to being eighth in Downhill and Super-G and tenth in Giant slalom. Contratulations!
Maria won her first race as a five year old girl, with 14 years she became the runner-up of the German School Championship and joined the German National Team shortly after. In 2004, at the age of 16, Maria raced at the World Cup where she made it to the first place on the podium.
Maria inherited her sportive talent from her father but also her uncle Wolfgang Zimmerer , a bobsleigh pilot, was successful at Olympic Games and World Championships during the 1970s.
Maria always stays highly focused and improves her technique as she moves up the sport career ladder ambitiously. Past season, thirty-four years after Rosi Mittermeier, Maria ranked first at the World Championship in French Val d’Isère. Despite several injuries and setbacks, she won Gold in her strongest discipline slalom and reached the peak of her so far most successful season. The DSV awarded Maria with the Golden Ski 2009 for her outstanding achievement.
We are looking forward to see more!
